About Me

Field work in Sierra de Maz, Argentina
My name is Derek Caro and I was born and raised in South Lake Tahoe, California. Aside from geology, I enjoy backpacking, backcountry skiing, fly fishing, and mountain biking. Growing up exploring the Sierra Nevada Mountains laid the foundation for a career in the geosciences, so I decided to seek a B.S in Geology from the University of California, Davis.

My passion for the outdoors coupled with a desire to be involved in top-notch research led me to the University of Wyoming where I am currently pursuing a M.S. in Geochemistry, under my advisor Dr. John Kaszuba.
